Church Support Groups Can Help

Although we hope it would never be true, the fact is that sometimes the toughest hurdle to overcome in dealing with drug or alcohol addiction in a family is what to tell the church.

Some churches give full spiritual, emotional and even financial support. We would hope that would always be true, but unfortunately, such is not always the case.

There are churches that literally ostracize a person who openly admits to being addicted to either drugs or alcohol. We hope that isn’t the case with your church, but if it is, please don’t give up hope.

In any case, we suggest several important issues that need to be addressed.

  • Always be open and honest with the problems you are faced with
  • Trust your pastor. Go to him first for prayer and emotional support
  • Find a group of friends with whom you can pray and talk
  • See if your church has a support group for addicts and families of addicts

For starters, if your church does have a support group for families of addicts, you should join immediately. It always helps to know that others are dealing with the same pain that is hurting you. In many cases, those families who have gone through these problems or are currently dealing with them will be of invaluable help.In any case, as we proceed with the consulting process in finding the right program for your situation, we can help you assess your specific church environment. If you need counsel and help from a pastor outside your own church, we can arrange to have pastors we know who can give you the help you need.

Our experience in dealing with many different churches in these situations will prove invaluable to you.

We can help you in this time of need.
